Leon County Democratic Party Awarded Golden Gavel Award by State Party
Friday, November 2, 2007
TALLAHASSEE – The
Florida Democratic Party awarded a biennial
Golden Gavel award for excellence to the Leon
County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC),
one of four North Florida DECs recognized for
outstanding accomplishments over the past
year.
“We salute the Leon County
Democrats for building an organization that can
readily contribute to the support of Democratic
candidates and initiatives,” said Florida
Democratic Party Chair Karen L. Thurman.
“We're encouraged by what we've seen in
Leon – indeed all of North Florida. People want
a new direction for America, and North Florida
is going to pave the way for Democratic wave of
change in 2008.”
“It's no secret
that elections are won on the ground. Our
activists are getting organized for the
upcoming campaign season, and with GOP support
down to record levels, we stand to make major
gains in the local, state and national
elections next year,” said Leon County
Democratic Chair Rick Minor.
Chair
Minor received the award from the Party during
2007 State Convention in Walt Disney World on
October 27.
“Republicans have proven
that their talk of family values is just that –
talk. Their rampant corruption, fight against
children’s health care, tax cuts for
billionaires, and mismanagement of the war in
Iraq reminds us that Democrats are the leaders
that actually care about the people,” Chair
Minor added.
